Breaking the stigma around mental health can take time, but you can use your voice to make an impact with your team.
Start a conversation
Just like any other issue your employee may be facing, you can address emotional health thoughtfully. Talk openly about challenges, address the stigma, invite employees to engage, and actively listen to understand how you can be part of the solution. Encourage employees to participate in the Well-being Employee Resource Group or to apply to be a Wellness Ambassador.
Communicate the range of offerings
Well-being is made up of many components, including how well you feel emotionally, physically, socially, and financially. Each of these affect how we think, feel, and behave at work and at home. Use this definition to highlight all of the pillars of well-being… “Well-being is when our employees are physically inspired, maintain a balanced mind, are financially prepared, and build social connections.” And, share the variety of benefits and programs with your teams so they can explore what works best for them.
Recommend the EAP
Employees and families have free support for anxiety, depression, burnout, work/life balance, substance use, sleep, grief, finances, or care through our Employee Assistance Program, ComPsych. The EAP also has resources to support you as a manager, including advice on how to best approach, engage, and provide ongoing support for an employee. Call 877-595-5280.
