Know YOUR Role at Work

It is important that you have an understanding of what your role as a manager includes when it comes to supporting the well-being of your team. Regardless of how long you’ve been a manager, there is something new to learn.

Your Role is to:

Support, encourage, and empower employees to be well. Listen and act with empathy and guide them toward resources and confidential assistance. You can build awareness and be part of the solution.

Your Role is not to:

Judge, diagnose, or solve employees’ problems. Recognize you cannot fix their problems, but take steps to make them feel better through support and guidance.

Leaders play an important role in creating a mentally healthy workplace. By taking small steps toward helping to create a safe work environment, we’ll see benefits that impact all of us in a positive way.

IMPROVED:

  • Working environment and relationships
  • Engagement and productivity
  • Attraction and retention

REDUCED:

  • Absenteeism and presenteeism
  • Illness and disability claims
  • Turnover and discontent

As a manager, you have many responsibilities. It’s hard to do everything if you’re running on empty. Take care of yourself before helping others.
